Prison populations as a source of speech audio?

While this is not necessarily a coding project, it does involve a lot of other effort in coordination, phone, compliance with security etc.
My understanding (never having been inside myself!) is that persons in prison have access to computers but do not have access to the internet. So while they may have time, they may not be aware of the voxforge project or be able to contribute online.
However they do have an interest in contributing in some positive manner that calls for little expenditure on their part except for time.

Has this been examined before?

Hi colbec,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you... been updating server hardware.

No... never thought of it, though I am not sure how keen inmates might be to do something like this... are you volunteering to see if there might be any interest?

The feedback is very negative. For various reasons, including security, approval processes, screening and suspicion of motivation by inmates make this not a feasible effort unless there are very special circumstances.

Better to spend the effort in another direction.

Thanks for looking into it... you never know where the best place to get speech might be.
