Why do you use MFCC as main feature?

Dear all.

I want to know why do you use MFCC as main feature?

In HTK also has many features to use such as LPC,FBANK, etc.

Is it has research report which tell you MFCC is the best feature?

Because that is what was used in the HTK Book's tutorial. CMU Sphinx also uses MFCC.
