Actually this is only a speech corpus (i.e. a database of speech) that can be used to train acoustic models for speech recognition engines.

The VoxForge Quickstart is simply a demo of what you can do with the corpus.

If you are talking about Julius, they support ALSA since version 4.1,

see the input parameter:

"-input alsa", "-input oss" and "-input esd"
