Should I be reading in monotone, or should I try to speak naturally? It's impossible to naturally speak sentences that have no grammatical structure, but I wonder if saying everything in monotone will harm recognition if I speak naturally after training is complete.

Please try to speak as if you are reading the prompts aloud to someone else (i.e. as naturally as possible). I know it is difficult with some prompts, but do what you can,
